The German automaker Audi continues to expand its lineup of electric vehicles. Currently, the company is working on a new entry-level Audi electric car, expected to hit the market in 2027. According to company information, this new vehicle will combine features of the A3 and Q3 models, aiming to meet the demand for small electric crossovers and SUVs.
Audi aims to introduce 20 fully electric vehicles by 2025, and starting from 2026, all new models will be equipped only with battery power. The company’s CEO, Gernot Döllner, noted that the new entry-level model could reduce development time to three years compared to conventional models. He also added that the newcomer would be positioned below the current Q4 e-tron model.
However, there is still little known about the specific characteristics of the new Audi entry-level EV. In the past, Audi’s technical director, Oliver Hoffmann, speculated that the new model might be built on VW Group’s MEB EV platform rather than Audi’s own PPE architecture. But Gernot Döllner stated that a final decision on the platform has not yet been made.
It is known that the new Audi electric car will be smaller and cheaper than other models in the lineup but will not replace the A1 model. Audi has also reserved even numbers for the names of its electric vehicles, so the new model may be designated as the Q2. However, Audi emphasizes that the new electric car will differ from the existing Q2 model, which will not receive a second generation.
Rumors about Audi’s basic electric model emerged last year. Initially, it was speculated that the model would be offered as a four-door hatchback and sedan, but a higher-riding car seems to be a more likely option.
It’s also worth noting that the Audi R8 sports car has officially left the assembly line, allowing the company to focus on developing new electric models.
